No-one likes taking tests, and sometimes they can feel pointless, but the marvellous Dr Sarah Jefferson PhD knows better than that, because actually tests are the greatest form of preparation for adolescents when it comes to dealing with stressful situations and performing under pressure. So she has embarked upon a journey to reframe the conversation around testing towards promoting positive practical strategies for coping and supporting the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Dr Sarah Jefferson is a Course Co-Ordinator of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Edith Cowan University. As a highly experienced secondary educator, she prepares pre-service teachers for their entry into the most important profession. Sarah's research focuses on the importance of social support and its impact on adolescents, veteran teachers and broader sectors and translating this into public value. Sarah recognizes the incredible capacity of teenagers and the challenges they face in tests and is passionate about reframing the conversation around this to positive practical coping strategies and supporting their transition to adulthood. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
