The Worcester Police Department will hold a graduation ceremony for the newest Police Academy class on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at Worcester Technical High School in the auditorium. City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. and Police Chief Steven M. Sargent will preside over the ceremony. Also welcoming the officers into the ranks of the Worcester Police Department with remarks will be Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Mayor Joseph M. Petty, and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Safety Kathleen M.Toomey. Sgt. Richard Cipro will be the Master of Ceremonies. The class is made up of 28 Worcester police recruits and 9 recruits from outside agencies including Holden, Uxbridge, Sterling, Framingham, Brimfield, Webster and Westminster. The graduates have received intense training, which began in January of 2016 and lasted 25 weeks. The Worcester Police Academy training curriculum included classroom study, physical training, first responder training, applied patrol procedures and scenario-based exercises. The classes were taught by Worcester Police Academy staff instructors, experienced Worcester police officers from various units in the department and guest instructors-including law enforcement officials and civilians from outside agencies.
