Today we answer a question about how to start attacking from the closed guard without losing control of your partner (and getting your guard passed right away). Closed guard is an excellent position for maintaining contact with a kneeling partner - you use the strongest parts of your body (legs and hips) to link yourself to them. But when it comes time to attack, you often find you have to unlock your guard to climb to an armlock or triangle, or to sweep your partner. That’s where the SCISSOR GUARD enters the picture. It’s a great way to maintain connection to your partner through shin contact, and allowing your legs to maintain distance between you.
