A Brief History & Overview of the TreeTop Walk Opening & Construction The TreeTop Walk, located within MacRitchie Reservoir in Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve, was officially completed in July 2004 and launched on 5 November 2004. Design & Location This unique 250-metre-long free-standing suspension bridge connects Bukit Peirce to Bukit Kalang — the two highest hills in the reserve. Its highest point towers approximately 25 m (around seven storeys) above the forest floor. Singapore’s First As the first such treetop suspension bridge in Singapore and the region, it offered both locals and visitors a new way to experience the forest canopy from above. Recreation Meets Research While it’s a popular recreational and walking spot offering panoramic views of the Upper Peirce Reservoir and lush rainforest, the structure also serves an important scientific purpose. It enables researchers access to the forest canopy for biodiversity surveys, plant identification, and ecosystem studies — areas previously inaccessible. Location Context The TreeTop Walk sits within the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, Singapore’s largest nature reserve spanning around 2,880 hectares. This green lung also includes other nature sites like the Singapore Zoo and River Safari, and is protected under the Parks & Trees Act. #tour #walking #nature #4k #thethingsthatisaw
