In TPM, and other Continuous Improvement systems, pillars play a central role. Early in the implementation, many organisation seem to struggle with the difference between AM teams and pillar - so let's dive into their roles and goals in this video. In the beginning you'll probably have only one AM team, on "the pilot line." This team will have many managers directly participating in the team's journey, which is good - it helps with learning and breaking through organisational red tape. After some time you'll want to launch multiple teams and spread the Autonomous Management system throughout the department and eventually your whole site. At that moment, you'll really need a central supporting group for all those teams, which TPM calls "the AM pillar." And the pillar role doesn't change much from those managers' role in that first pilot team: they need to break through the organisational red tape, and coordinate the AM and 5S activities and roll-out throughout the site. With the AM line teams being supported and freed up to focus fully on their own machine and work area to make all the operational decisions for improving that workplace. #continuousimprovement #AM #tpm
