Program notes: Responding to the Wind evokes an ancient and constant interacon with nature that takes place for each of us throughout our lives. The winds of the world blow us in one direcon, perhaps gently or at other mes with great force and violence. They can be somemes cool and kind or oen cung and cruel. However, as these winds blow, whirl, and slash us, we each have the opportunity to react proacvely and design our own desnies. If the wind blows us in one direcon we can decide for ourselves if we want to follow its course of least resistance or stand up against the onslaught according to our free will. At mes the music blows and swirls like the wind and at other mes it asserts itself, finds confidence, stands its ground, and finds its own path forward. This piece was composed in collaboraon with dancer Katharina Schier and her choreography was inspired by and brings into further expression this imagery and sound movement. This is a performance of my piece Responding to the Wind. This piece was written as a collaboration between myself and dancer/choreographer Katharina Schier. We first performed it in a several public performances at The Core mall in Calgary. It has been since revived for a socially distant performance which happened this summer in Calgary!
