2010 - Sweden Performed by: Anna Bergendahl Music by: Bobby Ljunggren Lyrics by: Kristian Lagerström Language: English This entry did not qualify for the ESC final. Do you know Bobby Ljunggren? The Swedish composer is one of those Eurovision Song Contest veterans who simply can't resist the annual hunt for country points. Of the more than a thousand entries the contest has produced in its history, quite a few are Ljunggren's. His 2010 coup was the Swedish entry "This Is My Live" – a heartbreaking ballad sung by Anna Bergendahl. His protégé, Bergendahl, was just three years old when Bobby Ljunggren gained his first experience in a Grand Prix Final. In 1995, Jan Johansen entered the contest in Dublin with Ljunggren's song "Se på mig" – "Look at Me" in English – and took third place for Sweden. The second appearance of a Swedish contestant, for whom Ljunggren provided the song, followed in 1998. In Birmingham, Jill Johnson reached tenth place with "Kärleken är," which translates to "Love Is" in English. In 2005, the composer successfully ventured out for the first time: With the band Laura & The Lovers and their song "Little By Little," he won the Lithuanian preliminary round. However, at the finals in Kyiv, he was eliminated in the semifinals. After flirting with Lithuania, Ljunggren successfully returned to the Swedish preliminary round. At Melodifestivalen, he helped two former Grand Prix winners make comebacks. In 2006, he wrote "Invincible" for Carola, and in 2008, "Hero" for Charlotte Perelli. But with fifth and eighteenth place, the composer again missed out on major success at the contest. Not a good omen for Oslo: In the ballad-heavy second semifinal, "This Is My Life" couldn't prevail against the equally well-tempered rival songs – and the Eurovision-mad Swedes were suddenly mere spectators in the final. Bobby Ljunggren entered the competition with high expectations due to his chosen performer, Anna Bergendahl. The 18-year-old singer had easily overcome the hurdle of the Melodifestivalen. After her semifinal performance, her song "This Is My Live" shot to number one in the Swedish charts. In the final on March 13, 2010, in front of 13,000 guests at Stockholm's Globen Arena and an estimated four million viewers, she lived up to her role as favorite, winning the votes of the international judges, the regional juries, and the televoters. Anna Bergendahl was born on December 11, 1991, in Stockholm and currently lives in Nyköping with her parents and three older siblings. Although her father, Henry, is a doctor and her mother, Birgitta, is a teacher, a career as a singer was the only option for Anna. At the age of three, she sang along to her favorite songs from Disney's "The Lion King," and at the age of ten, she wrote her first original songs. In 2004, the then twelve-year-old gained her first experience in a music competition on the TV show "Super Troopers." The next step in her career came in 2008 with her inevitable participation in a talent show. Although Anna Bergendahl only reached fifth place on "Swedish Idol," she was able to secure a contract with "Lionheart Records," Bobby Ljunggren's record label. From that point on, her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest was only a matter of time. LYRICS: This is my life I go down the beaten track 'Long the river with an empty bag At the end she said to me: 'Why are you here with the autumn leaves?' 'Cause this is my life, my friend And this is my time to stand Now this is my life, my friend And I can't be no one else I'm done, tipping on my toes Striking iron and attack my soul Misty moon, you're gonna see I've got your blues to get on my feet 'Cause this is my life, my friend And this is my time to stand 'Cause this is my life, my friend And I can't be no one else I don't wanna run, I don't wanna fight I don't wanna hide, I just wanna stay free To be me I don't wanna win, I don't wanna lose I don't wanna play, I just wanna remember Oh, my name 'Cause this is my life, my friend And this is my time to stand Oh, ooh... ('Cause this is my life, my friend (And this is my time to stand) Now this is my life, my friend And I can't be no one else 'Cause this is my life, my friend And I can't be no one else 'Cause this is my life, my friend
