SOUNDBITE (Turkish) Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister of Turkey: "Israel cannot remain silent forever over their possession of nuclear weapons. Everybody attacks Iran, thinking that Iran is developing nuclear capabilities. I believe that Israel is a threat for the region and for its neighbours because it clearly has nuclear weapons. Israel is an occupier and an invading force and Israel is enforcing a state of terror upon the region." 5. Wide cutaway of the delegates 6. SOUNDBITE (TURKISH) Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister of Turkey: "Bashar Assad (Syrian president) is just like his father. It seems like he is perpetuating the legacy of his father and, of course, this is not something you can pat someone on the back for. If you are fighting for freedom, if you are fighting to advance democracy, you cannot expect Syrians to continue living exactly the same way they did for the past forty years under the boots of the state of emergency and you cannot administer one country with only one party." 7. Cutaway of the delegates 8. Mid of Erdogan and Motlanthe rising from their seats at the end of the news conference STORYLINE: Turkey's prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of possessing nuclear weapons. "I believe that Israel is a threat for the region and for its neighbours because it clearly has nuclear weapons," said the Turkish premier. Erdogan spoke on Wednesday during a trip to South Africa. Israel refuses to confirm whether it has a nuclear weapon, following a policy it terms "nuclear ambiguity," but it is widely considered to be the Middle East's only nuclear power. Turkish-Israeli ties have deteriorated in recent months over Israel's refusal to apologise for the deaths of nine Turkish activists in a raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship last year, prompting Turkey to downgrade relations and expel diplomats. On the topic of Syria, Erdogan accused President Bashar Assad of taking on his father's legacy. "You cannot administer one country with only one party," he said.
