This video was recorded in 2003, just after the fall of the Arabic Baathist regime of Iraq. Qadirkaram/Qadirkerem is a large sub-district, lies in the south east of the city of Kirkuk in Kurdistan. It had 281 villages with 160 schools, 190 mosques and 21 small clinics. According to the 1957 census, the population of Qadirkaram was 13,426, all of them Kurds. During 1987 and 1988, 11,694 farming families with 61,394 members were expelled from its villages and sent to detention camps while others fell victim to the Anfal operations. The Iraqi regime burned many of the villages during the years of fighting with the Kurds. Iraq destroyed all these villages later during the two years of the Anfal. Qadirkaram was destroyed in 1988 and declared a military zone or "forbidden zone" and the Arabic government of Iraq executed anyone who entered the zone. Qadirkaram was liberated for a short period during the appraisal of spring 1991 after the defeat of Iraqi Army in Kuwait. People started to return to Qadirkaram and its villages after the operation of Iraqi Liberation in 2003 which was led by the United States of America
