VW Beetle Vapor (commercial, 2000)

In 2000, VW experimented with offering special editions of their cars that were only orderable over the internet. They weren't stocked by dealers and couldn't be ordered at dealers. They were direct-marketed. They seemed to be trying to capitalize on the inherent "hipness" of the internet, which was really starting to become a force in culture and shopping. The customness only really extended to the paint color. As I recall, there were 3 colors offered, Vapor being one of of them. VW did not repeat this experiment in the US, at least not to date. This spot aired on FOX during the Simpsons episode "Behind the Laughter" BABF19 (season 11 finale) on May 21, 2000.
