"Girl, You Don’t Know Me" written by Curtis Meyfield, by Rey Anton & The Peppermint Men. Born Leonard Hirons in Bournemouth, UK. Later moved in London. Window washer, he loves to sing, and dreams of becoming a pop star. At night he sang in local pubs and clubs around Bournemouth until the late 1950s when he moved to London and made his professional debut at Churchill’s Cabaret Club in Bond Street. For a brief biography : in 1962, Rey signed to the Oriole label and recorded three singles under the name of Rey Anton. In 1963, he founded the group The Peppermit Men with guitarist Brian ‘Chubby’ Sell, brothers Ted and Martin Dry, respectively guitarist and and bass player, and drummer Malcolm ‘Doc’ Randall, and signs with the Parlophone label for five singles from 1964 to 1965. However, sometime in the spring of 1965 Rey’s band deserted him, leaving the singer to hastily assemble an ad hoc version of The Peppermint Men which at various times included Tony Cator on guitar and Jeff Bannister on keyboards. Rey also recorded a single on His Masters Voice in 1967, Belgium only release. He also recorded in 1967, a single published only in Italy on La Voce Del Padrone (Italian translation of "His Master's Voice"). ORIGINAL VINYL * from my personal collection.
