This video is on resolving hair algae issues, naturally and effortlessly. With zero effort, I resolved hair algae in just 16 days naturally with physical intervention or chemicals. Hair algae is not toxic, which is great, but that doesn’t make it any less of an issue. Besides being Ugly, Hair Algae is Fast Growing and can overtake your corals causing them to die. Typical ways people deal with it: 1 - Reduce lighting period Shorten the photo period of the tank Some people may even blackout their tank for a few days I don’t like this method because it too can have a negative effect on coral inhabitants that rely on light for survival 2 - Water Change A water change will help reduce the nutrients feeding the outbreak, but itself is not going to get rid of the algae 3 - Chemicals I personally do not like treating issues with chemicals 4 - Natural Predator This is my go to for all issues and how I choose to resolve my hair algae issue Natural Options to resolve hair algae: Hermit Crabs Snails Urchins Sea Hares Fish: Tangs, Rabbitfish, Blennies The Natural Predator I used to eliminate the hair algae issue is - Mexican Turbo Snail. Mexican Turbo Snails love to eat hair algae and will consume large amounts of it quickly I add 10 Mexican Turbo snails on Day 0. *Note - I did not have a ton of coral in the tank when hair algae bloomed. If you have a lot of coral in the tank, and it is on the coral, I would recommend hand cleaning it off the coral with a toothbrush. Do not use the toothbrush on the corals flesh though, as that would harm the coral. Documented Timeline: Day 0 Day the Mexican Turbo Snails were added. Hair Algae is all over the rock scape, back glass, equipment, and sand bed. *Note - Between days 0 - 2, I routinely picked up the Mexican turbo snails and moved them where I wanted them, placing them directly on the algae. Day 2 A lot of the rock scape has been cleaned up. Mostly due to me repeatedly moving the snails the first 2 days. Some of the back glass has been cleaned as well. Day 7 Continued cleaning of the rock scape and back glass. Some cleanup started on the equipment. Day 9 Isolated areas left on the rock scape, glass, and sand bed. A lot left on the equipment. *Note - On day 9, a few times throughout the day, I picked up the Mexican turbo snails and moved them where I wanted them, placing them directly on the algae. Day 10 Some of the isolated areas of the rock scape left with hair algae was cleaned up more. Day 13 Just a little bit left on the equipment. Day 16 Everything is clear. #saltypops #fishtank #fish #fishaquarium #coral #coralreef #reef #reeftank #aquarium #aquariumfish #aquariumhobby #saltwateraquarium #saltwater #saltwaterfish #youtube #youtuber #youtubevideo #yt #youtubechannel #youtubevideos #algae #algaeeater #snail #snails #crab #crabs #hermitcrab #hermitcrabs
