By Ruth Chayinda GHANA has announced plans to establish a hub for Ghanaian technology solutions in Zambia, aimed at delivering innovative digital services across multiple sectors. Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, SAMUEL GEORGE, said the initiative is designed to export Afrocentric digital solutions to the region. Mr. GEORGE said that within the last 72 hours, Zambia and Ghana had held more than 30 strategic meetings covering key sectors such as fintech, health and agriculture. He was speaking at the Ghana–Zambia Business Forum held in Lusaka today. Meanwhile, Technology and Science Minister FELIX MUTATI said Zambia and Ghana are keen to narrow the digital divide, speed up business transactions and reduce related risks. Mr. MUTATI said cooperation with Ghana will enable the two countries to develop systems that harmonise transactions and strengthen digital collaboration. He also called for a balanced approach that supports innovation while ensuring effective regulation and risk management. And Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, SAMUEL ABLAKWA, said it is disappointing that despite the African Continental Free Trade Area –AfCFTA- being in place, intra-African trade remains below 20 per cent. Mr. ABLAKWA said Zambia and Ghana have an opportunity to change this trend, urging the business community and fintech firms to take advantage of existing opportunities.
