THORNS Funmilola (Hannah Adande) (looks like a new actress but did an amazing job in her role) is a beautiful young lady who was dating a handsome young man named Donald (Akinola Akano). He invited her to lunch and proposed. She got home and showed her mum the ring. (But in reality …I don’t think a man will propose to a lady without meeting his parents or even other family members) Funmi’s mum (Joke Muyiwa) was truly excited, as a mum should but then asked why she didn’t introduce him to her yet. But Donald cheated on her without another girl and she walked in on them making love. Tiiti (Anike Ami Olaniyi) is Funmi’s friend who doesn’t see anything wrong with what Donald did; because he already asked for forgiveness (really ???) Titi brought up Funmi’s relationship with Dele, who she thought was a perfect gentleman. Not realizing that he was a woman beater and extremely rude beast not a gentleman. Even Tope (Wuraola Adams) Dele’s sister doesn’t like the way Dele treats Funmi. They eventually broke up. Titi invited Funmi to church maybe she’ll find another guy. Here comes brother Joseph (Okikiola Adesina) (First time seeing him in a movies, but my goodness!!! He killed his role. Well done 👍🏿) who’s also the Youth Coordinator and introduced himself to Funmi as a first timer at the church. They started dating and got married but sexual aspect of the marriage wasn’t fulfilled on the husband’s part. He’s always involved in one fasting or the other; or one church activity or the other. Funmi got frustrated and went to tell her mum (typical Naija mum..refuses to hear her out). Mum said they both need to talk about it and there’s no marriage that doesn’t encounter hurdles. Mum asked if he’s abusive or cheats on her, response from Funmi was that he’s not. She sends Funmi back to her matrimonial home They have a house help (Tosin Olaniyan) who notices all that has been happening in their home and things not happening in their bedroom. In the 2 years of their marriage they’ve not had sexual intercourse more than 5 times But Joseph thinks because he provides and he’s responsible and a good Christian then that should be sufficient for his wife (not so oooo!! Joseph the dreamer😂) Funmi said if he knew he didn’t want a wife but wants a prayer partner, he should have married one. So keep in mind thus far ….the first guy Donald cheated with another lady. The second Dele physically, emotionally and verbally abused her. The third who we thought will be better since he’s a “Christian” was an extremist !! This is a like a compelling and insightful movie! Story that reflect real-life dating/marriage challenges that’s both eye-opener and educational. I always trust Anike Ami to bring her A game to the stage. The amazing Joke Muyiwa, as always I never expect anything less.
