READ THE PINNED COMMENT FOR MORE DETAILS! This TAS beats the standing unrestricted TAS BKT, so Timecut: 2670 ms Former BKT: 1:02.466 ( • [MKW TAS] Luigi Circuit (Supergrinding) - ... ) I've wanted to make an "RTA viable" TAS of this track for a little while now, but only got around to it recently. As JC has pushed the RTA wr lower and lower, I've been seeing more people ask if/when sub-1 minute will happen. TLDR: it won't in RTA. VLDR (very long did read): It is possible. Going into this TAS, I predicted a 1:01.xxx with a 3-0-0 shroomstrat, no-stop clip, instant ss entry, and absurdly good supersliding. Because I wanted to make something somewhat realistic, I imposed the following restrictions on this run: No more than six stick input alternations per second. When I played this in RTA, I could do a maximum of six or seven taps per second. This eliminates all rapid fire inputs, including those in the startslide and general EV building during supersliding. No autosliding. Autosliding is a specific sequence of inputs that maximizes EV gain by resetting lean rotation as the automatic drift kicks in. Automatic is still faster than manual due to the handling increase, which makes turning and general maneuverability easier. King boo is used to further increase handling, as no other stat matters during a superslide. Semi-realistic lines (self-explanatory) Touching on that last bullet point. While making lap 1, I realized that my EV down the large straight was well over 120 u/f. This meant that I could drive through the sand on the left with no penalty, as offroad only decreases IV. In addition to driving a straight line (as compared to following the road and turning), cutting the sand gives a better line into the pipe cut. This means that it is significantly easier to maintain max speed through said cut, saving even more time. The wall bonk in the sand permits a better realignment, as you are able to reverse while still holding right to angle the bike forward instead of backward. The back of the bike very briefly hits the wall of the ramp, preventing oversteering with automatic drift. Major timesaves available for RTA: Startslide saves ~30 ms. Spacing the shrooms such that zero time is spent being slowed down by the offroad before the clip saves ~300 ms over JC's current (safer) method, but leaves less time for microadjustments. Dropping the wheelie a frame or two before clipping decreases bike pitch (lowers the front wheel), giving a lower clip. Too low, and you hit the invisible wall above the seam. Saves ~600 ms over not dropping the wheelie, but the timing is really tight. Instant SS entry saves well over a second, and yes it is doable (I've done it many times in practice). The instant entry feature here is one of the slower ones you can get. It is very QM heavy, but it is barely possible to land directly in the ground without needing to bounce like this. I was unable to replicate it using auto, but I have gotten one of these in SP using manual. Cutting the sand saves ~200 ms to the cut. Taking the cut at 120 u/f saves another ~200 ms over taking it at 110-115 u/f. On L3, entering the cut a tiny bit wider and then cutting the final corner as tight as possible saves a couple of frames, as this allows a more direct line to the finish. That's about it! This TAS was made in about 6 hours, so it is by no means an "optimized" run. A proper run using superhopping and supergrinding is currently in the works within the TAS community, and is projected to be significantly faster than this.
