ABR Loons On Our Yamaha Tenere 700 Adventure Tour, UK to South Africa, Events & Incidents, To Ghana

Thanks for watching, please subscribe... Best motorcycle adventure routes, our route so far, motorcycle touring Africa, so we crossed another African border. Update since leaving Kindia mid Guinea. We headed east and then turned south towards Ivory Coast. (Cote d Ivore). The route we took was mostly broken road and gravel for the first few hundred kilometres. After a good day we managed to find a wild camp site hidden from the road. Tents set up nice and early 4pm ish & Paul made a yummy stew / vegetable soup from roadside purchases. We set about getting ready to settle for the night when a few characters suddenly appeared having walked up from the road. We attempted to befriend them but things seemed odd, so our gut feeling was this didn’t feel good. With only 30 mins of daylight left we broke camp and got back on the bikes and went to try and find another spot. Light failed us and we decided to run for the next town as it became to dangerous searching for camp in the dark. Eventually at 10pm we found a place and crashed. The road was horrendous Brocken dusty and draining. What should take about 1 hour took 3. Paul had the first off but all ok. We were absolutely exhausted but safe. Next day we set off in search of another camp on route to Ivory Coast. Now we were faced with another dilemma. Wild fires continually all along our route. With both bikes loaded with fuel bladders and water bottles full of petrol we couldn’t risk camping. Besides the bikes the tents could be destroyed. It was all very odd. The locals didn’t seem concerned at all but the wild fires were everywhere and the acrid taste of smoke went on for miles and miles. Given no choice again we headed for another town and found a hotel. It was bad so we decided to carry on. Fortunately we found another and the staff were great. The waitress even fell asleep on our table before the meal arrived ! Next day up and off again. Ivory Coast border crossed and a load more miles done. The hell of riding in Conakry city to obtain the visa behind us. However, while I was inside doing the formalities with the the official to complete visa that afternoon, Paul befriended the local Police who later shared their dinner with us. While waiting for me local children who couldn’t hear or speak came out of school. Needles to say Paul had them all on our bikes and some lovely smiles were seen. The Gendarmerie really warmed to us when they saw how we interacted with the kids and even took paul to the bank. VIP escort. We have met some lovely people over the last few days and before. Long may this part of our journey continue. Even the road checks wave us through and some even salute. Although the last 3 days have been tiring it has still been a lovely experience.
