The default match timer is set to 3600 frames which at normal speed would only be a minute long. Frames are used as a measurement of time and most actions spend frames. Here’s an example, at the time of recording the cowboy’s horizontal slash begins with 5 frames of start up. This is how long it will take before the attack can hit your opponent. Next, 4 active frames. This is when the attack is capable of hitting. Then 6 recovery frames. Similar to the start up frames, these frames don’t do anything, when you miss your attack, you must wait until these frames have passed before acting again. In total, missing this attack means doing nothing for 15 frames and waiting until the 16th to be able to act again. But knowing the frame data isn’t necessary thanks to the prediction system. Whichever actions you have selected will display a prediction of what might happen in the next 100 frames if those options were locked in. Keep in mind that almost everything in this game takes way less than 100 frames so you should focus on the very beginning of the prediction. You can also select your opponents actions to see how their choices might affect yours, but they might lock in something different, so don’t let that confuse you. The middle of the screen will display frame advantage based on the prediction. Frame advantage is how many more frames you have to perform your actions before your opponent can act. If you have the same or more frames it will display in blue, if you have less, red. The predictions will use colors to display actionability. If the player is green, they can act on those frames, if not, it will display them in their normal blue or red color. If someone has a negative frame advantage they’ll appear as yellow. If the prediction shows someone turn yellow later in the prediction, that tends to also mean that they are actionable on that frame. The predictions will also display after image frames to denote the exact moment a player first became or stopped being actionable. Use these predictions to examine the possibilities and plan out your next move but be warned. The prediction system is not perfect and has a history of bugs being removed from it over time. So don’t be too upset when things don’t go quite as predicted.
