Romania, Bucharest and the Palace of the Parliament

The Palace of the Parliament is the seat of the Parliament of Romania. It’s the 2nd largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon. The Palace was built by Nicolae Ceausescu (January 26, 1918 – December 25,1989) who was a Romanian Communist politician. He was overthrown in the Romanian Revolution in December 1989, part of a series of anti-Communist and anti-Soviet Union uprisings in Eastern Europe that year. His was the first of the communist nations to fall. Ceaușescu and his wife, Elena, fled the capital in a helicopter, but were captured by the armed forces after the armed forces changed sides. On 25 December, after being tried and convicted of economic sabotage and genocide, they were immediately executed by firing squad, Ceausescu built the Palace for his own use at the expense of his people who were starving.
