Iran issues warning of 'decisive' retaliation at UN after Trump strikes kill ayatollah

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has vowed “decisive” self-defence following devastating US-Israeli strikes. The massive military campaign dubbed Operation Epic Fury led to the death of Iran’s supreme leader. At a heated UN Security Council meeting, Iranian envoy Amir-Saeid Iravani condemned the strikes as an unlawful violation of sovereignty. “Neither the charter nor international law recognise internal matters of a state as justification for the use of force by other states. The rule of law would be replaced by the rule of force,” Mr Iravani said. “Iran will continue to exercise its right of self-defence decisively and without hesitation until the aggression ceases in full and unequivocal terms.” Trump’s critics warned the strikes could spark wider conflict in the Middle East. His supporters, however, hailed them as a decisive move against Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and proxy networks.
