The composition lasts around eight minutes and invites the musician to work with rules set out by Cage—while many details (when and how to play) are left to chance or performer choice. In this way, the piece emphasizes sound, rhythm, and timing over melody or harmony, and encourages active listening to every strike, pause, and resonance. In classic Cage fashion, the work shifts our focus: rather than what to play, the focus is on how to listen and what a snare drum can reveal when freed from conventional expectations. ______________________ ADÉLAÏDE FERRIÈRE Kolberg Artist Adélaïde Ferrière is a French percussionist and marimbist born in Dijon into a family of musicians. She began her musical training with piano and percussion at the Conservatoire of Dijon before, at the age of 15, entering the class of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP), where she completed her Master’s degree in 2017 with highest honours. In 2016, she also studied at the Royal College of Music in London. She has achieved numerous international awards, and in 2017 was designated “Revelation Instrumental Soloist” at the 24th Victoires de la Musique Classique—becoming the first percussionist ever nominated in that category. Ferrière performs regularly as soloist, chamber musician and guest with orchestras on major international stages—including Paris, Salzburg, London, Monaco and Athens—and at prominent festivals. She is particularly committed to contemporary repertoire and has participated in many world premieres, collaborating with living composers and promoting the marimba and percussion instruments in new contexts. _____________________ KOLBERG PERCUSSION Percussion instruments and orchestral equipment for world-class sounds - this has been the passion of the German manufacturer for over 50 years.
