In this GreenerFuture Leicestershire case study, Pavinda Bala, co‑owner of the Ibis Budget Leicester and Derby, shares how the hotels have transformed their operations through meaningful and measurable sustainability initiatives over the past 24 months. Pavinda explains how the business identified key sustainability priorities — reducing energy consumption, conserving water and improving operational efficiency — through reviewing energy use, assessing environmental impact and listening to guest feedback. He describes the challenges and benefits of investing in air‑source heat pumps and solar panels, supported by grants that made the transition more affordable. The hotel now generates up to 17.5 kW of electricity from its rooftop panels and produces around 50% of its electricity on a sunny day in March, with output expected to rise in the summer months. The air‑source heat pumps have also helped reduce annual energy consumption by around 25%. Pavinda encourages other businesses to see sustainability as an opportunity — a way to save money in the long term, reduce waste and appeal to the growing number of eco‑conscious customers. 🔗 Learn more about Ibis Budget Hotel: https://visitleicester.info/point-of-... 👉 Subscribe to explore more sustainability journeys, business insights and practical guidance.
