This next upload completes my collection of BBC's coverage of the 2001 World Rally Championship, marking the start of the second half of the season with Round 8, the Safari Rally. Heading into this event, the title contenders had experienced mixed fortunes. Reigning champion Marcus Grönholm faced a nightmare with reliability issues and driver errors, leaving him with just 4 points. Meanwhile, Tommi Mäkinen and Colin McRae had fared better, sharing the championship lead after McRae's three consecutive rally victories. Could McRae extend his winning streak to four, or could Richard Burns reignite his title hopes by repeating his 2000 victory, which saw him lead a dominant Subaru 1-2? With the event running four months later than usual, the roads were significantly rougher. Who would come out on top in the toughest rally on the calendar?
