Mercia Sound [radio station in Coventry, England] archive footage from ATV Today In this video there are two reports, the first from 22nd May 1980 the day before Mercia Sound launched on air, with interviews from the programme controller, Ian Rufus, presenters Andy Lloyd and Gordon Astley, whose breakfast programme opened the station. The second report from the 9th February 1981 looks at the success of Mercia Sound and although the station had only been on the air for under than a year it had audience figures which says that it is the second most listened to local radio station in the country. With interviews from the stations chief executive John Bradford, presenter Andy Lloyd, breakfast show presenter Gordon Astley and news editor Mike Henfield.
