Years ago, a 19-year-old university student walked into my office after receiving a 24,000 Shilling loan from HELB. His mother had recently passed away, leaving him and his three siblings with little financial support. Despite this, he was eager to learn how to invest his limited funds to grow his wealth, knowing he had no one else to rely on. Over the next few years, we worked together as he consistently invested small amounts, sometimes as little as 2,000 to 5,000 Shillings, into the stock market. His discipline and commitment were inspiring, and after four years, I passed him on to another colleague as I transitioned into a new role. Years later, in 2011, I was surprised to see a payment request from him for 2.85 million Shillings. He had remained consistent with the advice I’d given him and had grown his investments significantly. This experience taught me a powerful lesson: consistency, discipline, and the right mindset can transform anyone’s financial situation, regardless of where they start.
