Ο Ναός της Αθηνάς στο Πρασιδάκι - Temple of Athena at Prasidaki

Στα σύνορα Ηλείας κα Μεσσηνίας 20 λεπτά περίπου από την πόλη της Ζαχαρως και κοντά στο χωριό Πρασιδάκι, αποκαλύφθηκε κατά τα έτη 1999 - 2004 ναός πρώιμων κλασικών χρόνων αφιερωμένος στη θεά Αθηνά. Ο δωρικός ναός είναι χτισμένος από μαλακό πωρόλιθο, είναι περίπτερος (6x13 κίονες). Διαθέτει πρόναο, σηκό και οπισθόδομο και εδράζεται σε τρίβαθμη κρηπίδα.. Ο σηκός μάλλον έφερε διπλή, δίτονη, εσωτερική κιονοστοιχία και στο εσωτερικό του σώζεται το βάθρο του λατρευτικού αγάλματος. Η πήλινη κεράμωση του ναού έφερε πλούσια γραπτή και πλαστική διακόσμηση. Το μνημείο πιθανόν καταστράφηκε από σεισμό, τον οποίο ακολούθησε φωτιά μεταξύ του 1ου και του 2ου αι. μ.Χ. Η αναθηματική επιγραφή ΑΘΑΝΑΙ ΑΓΟΡΙΟΙΣ ΑΡΙΟΥΝΤΙΑΣ ΑΝΕΘΕΚΕΝ στο χείλος χάλκινης φιάλης δηλώνει ότι η λατρευόμενη θεότητα του ναού ήταν η Αθηνά, ενώ το επίθετο ΑΓΟΡΙΟΙΣ μαρτυρεί ότι ο ναός βρισκόταν στην αγορά της πόλης. Γύρω από το μνημείο εντοπίζονται οικιστικά και ταφικά κατάλοιπα. Το πιθανότερο ο οικισμός που υπήρχε γύρω από τον ναό και συμφώνα με τις διηγήσεις του αρχαίου γεωγράφου Στράβωνα να πρόκειται για τους αρχαίους Πύργους, μιά από τις πόλεις της Μινυακής εξάπολης. The votive inscription ATHANAI AGORIOIS ARIONTIAS ANETHEKEN on the rim of a copper bottle states that the worshiped deity of the temple was Athena, while the epithet AGORIOIS testifies that the temple was located in the city market. Residential and burial remains can be found around the monument. It is most likely that the settlement that existed around the temple and agreed with the stories of the ancient geographer Strabo is about the ancient Pyrgos, one of the cities of the Minyan hexapolis.
