Chữ Nôm is Vietnamese-invented characters AND Chữ Hán combined. • Did Vietnamese used to sound different from now? Yes! It is also reflected in Chữ Nôm: in Vietnamese, "the moon" is "trăng." Back then, they used a character that has the sound component 巴 (ba) and 夌 (lăng), which suggests it was actually read blăng.
