Previews the concepts of "community" & "society" as used by anthropologists. Following from Tonnies, we have: 1. Society / Gesselschaft (written laws, the state, civil society, nation, capitalism) 2. Community / Gemeinschaft (traditions, spoken mores, kinship and locality, reciprocity) For more, please see https://notes-culture.blogspot.com/20... Like all the conceptual tools we use in Anthropology, the community-society distinction illuminates and obscures, for example in relation to 'urban villages'. We see this in relation to "online communities".Please see this Blog on : https://intro-to-digital-anthropology... Important contributors include: Anderson, Benedict. 1992. Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism. London: Verso. Durkheim, E. (1933). The Division of Labor in Society (G. Simpson, Trans.). New York: The Free Press.
