Knife-Wielding Suspect Gets Shot by Deputies During Domestic Dispute

(Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Riverside, California — On Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 3:48 a.m., deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station responded to the 3300 block of Avalon Street reference a domestic dispute. It was reported that the suspect, 39-year-old Ernesto Rodriguez threatened members of his family with a knife. His wife and 11 year-old child were hiding in the bathroom. You will now hear the dispatch recording from the call for service. Upon their arrival, deputies were able to evacuate everyone from the residence safely, but Rodriguez refused to exit and barricaded himself in a back room. The Riverside Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to assist. After extensive negotiations, Rodriguez exited the back room, still armed with a knife. Multiple attempts were made to gain compliance, utilizing multiple less lethal devices. And despite numerous commands given to surrender, Rodriguez refused to comply. Rodriguez advanced toward deputies with a knife and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Deputies rendered aid, but Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene. The knife used by Rodriguez was a six inch knife with a black handle.
