“Al Aylughes” by ARMENIAN SPIRIT Live in Mezzo Club | Yerevan Line-up: Rita MOVSESIAN (Vocals) Emmanuel HOVHANNISYAN (Duduk & Zurna) Juan Carlos SUNGURLIAN (Oud & Bouzouki) Karen ASATRIAN (Piano & Keyboards) Ante JURINOVIC (Bass) Reinhardt WINKLER (Drums) special thanks to John Grigoryan for video & audio editing Al Aylughes, is one of Komitas’s most famous songs. Komitas, who was a monk and composer, is considered to be the founder of the modern classical music of Armenia. While traveling through Anatolian Armenia and the Southern Caucasus, Komitas collected thousands of folk-songs dating back to around the beginning of the 20th C. These songs represent the ancient oral heritage of Armenian culture. The music and lyrics express the feelings of love, sorrow and other complex emotions of the human experience. The lyrics encompass the past through the use of terms and expressions that no longer exist in common, day-to-day linguistics and yet have served in these collections of centuries old songs. Lyrics AL AYLOUGHS (Your Kerchief) Girl says: I lost my kerchief at your doorstep Since then my heart is full of flames My fortune led me to you, my love Hey, handsome, hand me back my kerchief! Boy answers: Your kerchief, is not with me I swear to you, my soul is my witness Whoever finds it, shall bring it back to you Oh, beautiful girl with the kerchief
