Our Jeep ride down Black Gap Road in Big Bend National Park, Texas in Dec 2021. This 16.4 mile Jeep Badge of Honor Trail is officially rated Moderate to Demanding (4-6). My daughter and I drove our Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL with Mopar 2 inch lift and 35 inch Nitto Trail Grapplers. This fantastic trail full of beautiful scenery and easy to moderate obstacles is a "must do" if you are an off-road enthusiast in the Big Bend area. The infamous "Black Gap" obstacle is really a non issue due to the stacked rocks. We drove 95% of the trail in 2WD, but were glad to have 4WD ready to engage when needed. The biggest challenges on this unmaintained road are a few off camber lines, dense foliage, and lack of cell phone service. I highly recommend downloading offline maps to track your progress. We only passed 3 vehicles in over 4 hours on the road so make sure you are prepared. Mostly it's a fun, scenic, well marked trail that I highly recommend for any high clearance 4WD vehicle. It's a bit of a drive to the Trail Head, so this adventure took most of our late morning and early afternoon as we rode out and back. The trail was even more fun the 2nd time around on the way back.
