Back in the Porsche Cup 992.2 after a short GT3 detour while preparing for the Daytona 24. Jumping back into the Cup car always takes a bit of adjustment, and this time that return came at Road Atlanta. I have always felt like I am decent at Road Atlanta, but it is one of those tracks where if you feel okay, everyone else seems to be really good. That was definitely the case here. Porsche Cup at Road Atlanta is a very popular combination, and this race ended up with six splits. I landed in the top split, which came with a Strength of Field of 3560. I was the number 19 car out of 23, so expectations were pretty realistic going in. Qualifying actually went better than expected. I managed to put the car 16th on the grid, which was ahead of my door number. That might have been the first time I have managed that all season, even if it was still in the back half of the field. I was genuinely happy with that result. The start, unfortunately, did not go quite as well. I got a decent launch, but I positioned myself on the outside of a car I had beaten off the line. That decision ended up costing me several positions as the field funneled through the opening corners. From there, the race turned into a familiar question. Could I work my way back toward where I started, or would the pace and pressure of top split Road Atlanta drag me further toward the back?
