On this Buddhapurnima day, I have brought for you a tour of the ancient Buddhist stupa And here I am, in Sopara. Sopara is located in Nalasopara town in Vasai taluka of Palghar district. Although Nalasopara is an emerging city close to Mumbai,The ancient history of this Sopara is rich. Today we are going to learn about this ancient Buddhist stupa in Sopara and Sopara through this video. So let's go Before that, let's take a brief look at the ancient history of Sopara. Sopara was a very prosperous city when Mumbai was divided into small islands. Sopara was also a port of international trade. From here it traded with Arab, Greek, Rome, Mesopotamia and African countries. In 150 AD, Ptolemy, a Greek geographer and mathematician, mentioned in his book Geography that Sopara was situated between Navsari and Chaul. Also, In the first century, in the book Periplus of the Erithrian Sea, it is mentioned that the place Sopara is between Bhrigakachchh, now Bharuch and Kalyan. Similarly, the ancient mention of Sopara is found in the Buddhist scripture Divyavadanam. This book contains 38 stories about charity.
