Make sure your car and trailer are roadworthy and in good mechanical condition 3. If you are carrying small items, cover the load so items don't fall or fly out of the trailer 4. Do not use restraints or straps if they are frayed, cut or damaged 5. Evenly distribute loads, ensuring they are secured to the trailer properly preventing movement 6. Remember that loads will often move during a journey allowing restraints to loosen 7. Re-check the restraints shortly after beginning the journey 8. Make sure your number plate is visible 9. Avoid sudden braking, heavy acceleration and sharp cornering Under Victoria’s Road Rules it is an offence not to have a trailer load secured properly and it is an unnecessary risk to driver safety. Loads must be secured so that your vehicle is stable and safe.
