Rauris - Sports, Tradition, and Comfort. The golden resort of the Alps is at 950 m, situated somewhat apart from the larger tourist centres in the Salzburger Land. Approx. 50 km from Bischofshofen, Rauris is between the Gasteiner Valley and the Kapruner Glacier. The mostly easy to medium-difficult pistes guarantee skiing fun at altitudes up to approximately 2,200 m. Start in wide and family-friendly pistes of the ‘’Schwarzwand.’’ The small ski area proves itself after several days with no new snowfall when you can still find un-touched deep-powder descents. Skiing fun in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park is quite something to look forward to. The 30 km of pistes are easily reached via 2 gondolas, a chair lift, and 7 simple tow-lifts. Several cross country trails are found in the valley, promising a total length of 45 km for a perfect day in the beautiful and varied natural landscape. The Adventure Ski School, located directly at the valley station, also offers a ski kindergarten for the little ones, complete with a ‘’magic carpet’’ conveyor lift that’s sure to bring smiles. Babysitters and ski instructors keep a watchful and loving eye on the little ones, and there are also ski courses available for all skill levels. Several huts invite you to turn in for midday. The Kreuzboden Hut is a popular spot for downhill enthusiasts, broadcasting all Alpine races in the restaurant. Kick off the second half of your day with a hearty midday meal. To experience one of the highlights of the resort, rent a sled and conquer approximately 300 m of elevation. The Kreuzboden lift brings you comfortably back to the start so you can have another go.
