I recently reviewed a $600 (or more...) bottle of Bunnahabhain 25 Year:    • Bunnahabhain 25 Year Review - Oldest and M...   Unfortunately, when I first opened the bottle, the cork was split, and when I tried to extract it from the neck, it crumbled into the bottle. I decided to remove the whisky from the cork-contaminated bottle because I did not want to leave the cork material in the 46% whisky to degrade and potentially affect the flavor of this expensive Islay whisky. Unfortunately, my first attempt involving mesh straining into smaller bottles didn't do the job, and I had to make a tough choice about what to do before making a second attempt.
