Mt. Fuji has four different 5th Stations, each serving as the trailhead for one of the main climbing routes. The most popular and well-developed for tourists is the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (also known as Yoshidaguchi 5th Station or Kawaguchiko 5th Station). Here are details focusing on the most popular one, the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station: Location Mid-way up the northern slope of Mt. Fuji, in Yamanashi Prefecture. Altitude Approximately 2,305 meters (about 7,562 feet) above sea level. Access Via the scenic Fuji Subaru Line (a toll road). Accessible by express bus (from Tokyo/Shinjuku), local bus (from Kawaguchiko or Fujisan Stations), taxi, or private car (restrictions apply during the climbing season). Primary Trail It is the starting point for the Yoshida Trail, the most popular route to the summit. Facilities and Activities Climbing Base: The last point to buy climbing supplies at reasonable prices (e.g., hiking sticks, snacks, water, oxygen). Many climbers start their ascent here. Restaurants & Shops: Numerous facilities for dining, resting, and souvenir shopping. You can find local dishes and Mt. Fuji-themed goods. Komitake Shrine: A historic shrine located at the station, offering a cultural experience and an observation point with views of the Fuji Five Lakes area below. Views: Provides stunning, commanding views of the landscape below, often including the "sea of clouds" on a clear day. Hiking: Besides the Yoshida Trail to the summit, you can walk the Ochudo Trail, which circles the mountain at roughly the same elevation for a less strenuous hike. Other 5th Stations The other three 5th Stations are typically used more for climbing than general sightseeing: Fujinomiya 5th Station: The highest 5th Station (∼2,380m), and the starting point for the shorter Fujinomiya Trail. Subashiri 5th Station: (∼1,970m) The start of the Subashiri Trail, which merges with the Yoshida Trail higher up. Gotemba Trail New 5th Station: (∼1,440m) The lowest 5th Station, for the longest and least crowded Gotemba Trail.
