How should a school respond to media inquiries about a tragic student death that happened offsite? Although losing a student or staff member to tragedy is a rare experience --- it does happen. During our 20 plus years of serving schools, we had to work through two family massacres and other horribly unfortunate fatalities. When tragedy strikes, most school administrators are unprepared. As a result, they miss the opportunity to effectively communicate through the media. And, because they were caught off guard, some administrators have made serious errors when addressing the tragedy. This brief video provides school adminis trators an overview of how to prepare ahead of time to manage the media if unexpected fatalities occur.
