Scenes following the July 9, 1953, eruption of Alaska's Mt. Spurr include headlines from the Anchorage Daily News, a car and airplane covered in ash, a map showing Anchorage and Mt. Spurr, Anchorage through ash clouds, and aerial views of the volcano. Although the eruption was not anticipated, no major injuries were reported. Mt. Spurr is located approximately 81 miles west of Anchorage. Thick ash covered Anchorage, Turnagain Arm and the Village of Tyonek. In 1992, another eruption from the same peak again coated the region in ash (Color/Silent/16mm film).
