Available now at http://www.bjjwarehouse.com/manto_x_p... This is a review of the X Pro Gi, a lightweight, highly-detailed offering by Manto. The jacket is made of a 100 percent cotton, 450 gram pearl weave, and the pants are made of lightweight 10oz ripstop. This IBJJF approved gi comes in white, blue and black, weighs 3lb 8oz and retails for 145.95 to 164.95 on bjjwarehouse.com Design The white version features purple embroidery, purple contrast stitching, purple ribbon and a purple print on the inside of the jacket. I may be biased because the coloring matches my belt, but I was pretty excited about it. Big Manto lettering runs across both shoulders, and the design is very crisp-looking. The inside print features the popular Manto logo with 24-7-365. Seam tape runs inside the cuffs, along the bottom of the jacket and all the way around the collar. It's smooth and, thanks to it's folded over edges, doesn't scratch the skin at all. The pants also have it running around the inner circumference of the pants. Purple belt loops and a purple stretchy rope. I've always liked the designs of Manto gis, and this was the first one I'd ever actually worn. I think the X Pro has a modern, clean look to it in a way that manages to incorporate a lot of elements but still feel minimalist. Fit and Feel I'm 5'8" and 160 pounds, and the A2 was pretty big for me out of the bag. After two cold washes and hot dries, I did get it to shrink some. You can see by the measurements chart that I got the jacket sleeves to shrink about an inch and a half each, and the pants came up about an inch and a half as well. That was better, but I could probably get away with an A1 in this gi. The jacket and the pants are both soft and comfortable, and the seam tape in the cuffs is perfect. Very nice on the skin. Build Quality The X Pro has standard side vent and crotch reinforcements along with triple stitching throughout the major stress zones. It doesn't have the usual armpit reinforcements. But I stress-tested the crap out of it. I grabbed the jacket's lapels, stuck both feet against the armpit area inside the jacket and push-pulled for all I was worth. I'm sure I looked like an idiot, but the jacket came out unscathed. You're welcome. The embroidery was precise and without loose threads, and the stitching throughout the gi looked uniform and accurate. The inside print will fade, but even after a couple washes it still looks brand new, which is a good sign. I'd say the X-Pro should hold up just fine. In Action I'm probably making too big a deal about the comfortable seam tape in the sleeve and ankle cuffs, but seriously, when it's done poorly and it's scratching your skin the whole time, it isn't pleasant. First world problems, I know, but the X-Pro is a real joy to roll in. It's lightweight, comfortable, easy to move around in, and it feels a little luxurious. Well, as luxurious as you can really feel while someone is trying to tear your arms off. I'm glad I got a chance to finally roll in a Manto. It's definitely a quality experience. Conclusion The X-Pro design embodies the spirit of the BJJ addict. Jiu-jitsu is a 24-7-365 kind of lifestyle. Even when you aren't on the mats, you're thinking about it, like when your girlfriend goes to hug you, and you wonder if you could kimura sneak attack her. It's just the way it is. The X-Pro has a great design, is fun to roll in and has an excellent build. It will serve you well.
