CASS Talks 2020 - May 8, 2020 #casstalks2020 Can we build a Trustworthy Billion Transistor Chip? Prof. Samuel Pagliarini TalTech, Estonia Abstract: In this talk, Samuel will share his experience related to designing (and securing) hardware in advanced technology nodes. Samuel has been part of three major research efforts sponsored by the US Department of Defense that relate to Split Fabrication, dual-chip systems, and anti-reverse engineering techniques. In 2018, he designed an SoC with 1B transistors in 16nm FinFET CMOS, probably a record for any one-man chip ever designed. He will discuss some of the 10+ hardware security techniques that were utilized in the SoC and the implications for its security. Short CV: Samuel Pagliarini is currently a Professor at TalTech - Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn, Estonia, where he leads the Centre for Hardware Security. He has previously held research appointments at Carnegie Mellon University, USA and at the University of Bristol, UK. Samuel has a background in IC design, having taped out himself or supervised dozens of ICs. Samuel's research concentrates on issues such as IP theft, crypto hardware, circuit obfuscation, and prevention of hardware trojans.
