From high school dropout to US Army First Sergeant, Chris Nastari’s life was built in fire. In this episode of Veteran Stories, Chris walks us through his full journey: joining the infantry to escape a dead-end path, learning under Mosul veterans at Fort Lewis, rolling through East Rashid and the “Honduras sector” of Baghdad during the Iraq surge, and pushing into Diyala Province on a 15-month deployment. Then we move to Afghanistan’s RC-East, where he led soldiers in combat as a squad leader, before becoming a Ranger Instructor in the mountains and later serving as a Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and leader in the Soldier for Life Program. This isn’t just about tabs and badges. We talk about fear, loss, leadership, and mental health—what it really costs to wear the uniform for a full career, and what happens when the war doesn’t stay overseas. If you’ve ever worn the uniform—or loved someone who has—this story will hit home. 👊 If this episode hits you, please: 👍 Like the video 💬 Drop a comment (where did you serve?) 📲 Share it with another veteran or military family 🔔 Subscribe to help us keep telling the stories the history books skip If you’re a veteran or service member struggling with mental health, you are not weak and you are not alone.
