CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (Scott Dimmich) -- Keeping the community safe is a team effort. While The Weather Authority tracks storms, local emergency managers want you to be prepared for any disaster. The Northern Kentucky Emergency Planning Committee's new app focuses on preparedness, especially in chemical emergencies. "The goal is to make the community aware of chemicals in their neighborhoods and communities, and make them aware there is a place they can go to get information about those chemicals and what preparedness plans are in place," said Campbell County Emergency Management Director William Turner. Turner said the app also gives the community traffic information, photos of training, an events calendar, and steps to prepare for any disaster. "We also talk about some weather related issues. We have a section on lightning safety and tornadoes," said Turner. The Northern Kentucky Emergency Planning Committee felt the app was essential given advances in technology and the need to reach as many people as possible. Turner said, "We realize that more and more people are relying on apps like this for their iPad and their phones. If you want information that's where you turn now, especially the younger generation. We felt by creating the phone app that and also updating the website, it would help us in outreach to the community." Follow Scott Dimmich on Twitter @scottdimmich and LIKE him on Facebook
