Even victory has a cost. In this documentary episode, Kaiserreich developers and KCC writers delve deeper into the plight of the Bulgarian Tsardom, expanding upon the Bulgaria chapter featured in their earlier documentary episode. Bulgaria enters the interwar period bloated beyond recognition. While no other Central Power seized as much territory as Sofia has, this wanton expansion has taken a heavy toll on the country’s stability. Much of the newly acquired provinces have become multi-ethnic hotbeds of partisan activity. In the Bulgarian borderlands, Serbs, Romanians, Albanians and Greeks fight the Sofia government – and each other. Ongoing territorial instability has plunged Bulgaria into deep economic crisis and undermined her already fragile democratic institutions. Rogue paramilitaries now dominate much of the expanded Tsardom.
