The Principality of Seborga (Italian: Principato di Seborga) is an unrecognised micronation that claims a 14 km2 (5.4 sq mi; 3,500 acres) area located in the northwestern Italian Province of Imperia in Liguria, near the French border, and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Monaco. The principality is coextensive with the town of Seborga; assertions of sovereignty were instigated in 1963 by a local campaigner based on unproven claims about territorial settlements made by the Congress of Vienna after the Napoleonic Wars. The flag of Seborga used today is divided into two parts: the left, corresponding to 1/3 of the length, has a white background and has the small coat of arms of the Principality, the right part, corresponding to 2/3 of the length, is made up of 18 alternating horizontal bands of white and blue. The Seborga national anthem is entitled "La Speranza". The listenable version was orchestrated, starting from the original melody, by the prestigious Razumovsky Symphony Orchestra (Slovakia) of about 90 elements, conducted by Maestro Peter Breiner.
