BrainMind (www.brainmind.org) is a platform and private community of top scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, philanthropists, and policymakers collaborating to catalyze impactful innovation in brain science. As progress accelerates in brain research, new tools and applications promise to alleviate suffering and advance human potential for people from all walks of life. Yet, the translation of these ideas is uneven and inefficient, and due to market demands for high profits, many impactful ideas will never be funded through traditional market channels. The BrainMind ecosystem has formed to collectively shepherd, support, and grow ideas that can be translated from labs into interventions that will benefit humanity A distinctive feature in our community is the inclusion of investors, industry stakeholders, and entrepreneurs, such that our purview extends from basic science all the way through the pathway of commercialization. BrainMind is distinguished by the collective strength of its 1,800+ member community, which is growing selectively by referral only. Our institutional collaborations include Stanford, MIT, Oxford, the Rhodes Trust, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Our organization is convening world-class summits to infuse new projects and ventures with leadership and funding support. Our last two gatherings at Stanford and MIT brought together over 500 participants including 120 top neuroscientists and 130 top funds and foundations. BrainMind is currently developing new philanthropic and investing approaches to accelerate impact, and we recognize that ethical frameworks are necessary to guide idea curation. Our vision is to form the vital connective tissue between the lab and the world at large, and our focus is on human impact in light of the potential benefits and hazards accompanying rapid innovation in brain science. As we build momentum and ready ourselves to allocate capital and resources, we are placing a high priority on ethics questions moving forward.
