This is the first video from a series of music videos we are producing to pay tribute to Thinley Gyamtsho and Tashi Gyeltshen, men who were behind some of the 1980s hits that profoundly impacted Bhutanese music. In the 1980s, Thinley Gyamtsho and Tashi Gyeltshen composed and sang many hits including nursery rhymes that still live today. Those songs would go on to shape the "Rigsar" genre of Bhutanese music. Back then they recorded their songs on a tape recorder and an acoustic guitar was all the instrument they could get. Nga gi choelu masong was written in 1986 by Thinley Gyamtsho in Mongar whilst on a tour of eastern Bhutan as a young curriculum officer of the Department of Education. Some of their other hits from Gyamtsho & Tashi include sazambuling di na, gola bumtha mathra, wai dorozam, wai lhamo, ausaphalay jomi bum di, droba atara, and more. Many of the songs were also composed when they were working at National Council for Social and Cultural Promotion and organised scout camps where they would teach school children songs. We are very appreciative of the support of MStudio and Sonam Wangchen in helping with the arrangement for this song. They did magic wrapping up this 1980s hit in 2020s B-PoP!!
