Durdle Door (sometimes written Durdle Dor) is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England.[1] Although privately owned by the Lulworth Estate,[2][3] it is open to the public. Durdle Door is probably the most famous stone arch anywhere in the world. It was created when the sea pierced through the Portland limestone around 10,000 years ago. Looking west over the beach, isolated stacks out at sea show where an older coastline once lay. Views of Durdle Door are not possible from the car park. Accessible toilets are located at Durdle Door Holiday Park car park. Parking: Large car park is accessed via Durdle Door holiday park and it is a 15 minute walk down a steep path then steps to the beach. Durdle Door is one of the Jurassic Coast's most iconic landscapes. It is a natural arch, formed from a layer of hard limestone standing almost vertically out of the sea. Hollywood films including Nanny McPhee, Elizabeth, Singularity and World War Z have all been filmed in this area, as well as a number of TV commercials, educational films, and documentaries.
