In this activity, children will be able to really explore their imagination in an outdoor setting through the lens of unstructured play. In this week’s video, Jillian will give one demonstration on the possibility of outdoor imagination based play, as an introduction to allowing your child to begin creating their own world and adventures. Imagination is key to the development of your child’s problem solving skills, social skills, ability to manage stress and self-regulate, as well as develop empathy. Through imagining their environment as they want it to be, they also undertake a sense of ownership for their learning, and independence in exploring themselves and their interests. Imaginative play incorporates elements of language, physical education and drama, all of which also help to prepare your child for the structured introduction of these subjects in a formal school setting. Ways to Build on This: • Connect it to something they love. Whether this is animals or magic or aliens, use their passion to help their imagination come alive • Connect it to something they are reading. Ask them to role model their favorite character and see how things change • Don’t be afraid to add props or get siblings involved; the more the merrier Links to Further Resources: https://www.scholastic.com/parents/ki...
