MEDICARE EXPLAINED There are 4 distinct parts of Medicare. • Part A: your hospital coverage • Part B: your medical coverage (doctor visits) • Part C: known as Medicare Advantage • Part D: prescription drug coverage Parts A and Part B make up what is called Original Medicare, which is managed by the Federal government. Most Medicare beneficiaries pay a monthly plan premium for Part B coverage. Original Medicare does not cover all of your hospital and medical costs, only about 80% of your eligible expenses. You are responsible for the rest. Also, Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage. To help cover the costs of your prescription drugs, you can purchase a stand-alone drug plan (Part D), or receive the benefit as a part of a Medicare Advantage plan.
