In a follow-up interview, JIL Founding Executive Director Jared Fishman spoke to CNN’s Laura Jarrett regarding text messages sent by the men convicted in the Ahmaud Arbery murder. Fishman noted that the language in the texts is extreme. “They show racist ideology. They show a strong dehumanization of African-American people,” he said. “I think what's helpful about these texts is it shows how the defendants processed and thought about black people. They dehumanized them. They saw them as criminals. And that was the mind set with which they approached Ahmed Arbery. When they had those thoughts grounded in racial hatred, that's what the government is going to show motivated the killing.”
